What is Sober College University?
Sober College University (SCU) is an online education company that delivers world-class Recovery Related and Professional Development curriculum to a broad range of customers, including Treatment Centers, Therapist, Outpatient programs, Long Term Residential Programs, Families who’s loved ones are suffering from Addiction, and anyone else needing to learn about addiction and recovery. Sober College University offers a practical curriculum whose guiding principle is learning by doing, and blends the best elements of a traditional recovery education with the most critical real-world training. In addition to its innovative curriculum, SCU is distinguished by the interactive learning experiences it provides through innovative content delivery.
Sober College University was founded on the principle that the key to success in today’s Recovery environment is knowledge. However you define success—whether its needing to understand addiction on a personal level, starting a job in the recovery industry, have a loved one in treatment, or wanting to advance your career in the health care field—the need to take charge of one’s own education has never been more critical. SCU offers courses and programs in a wide range of subjects—Recovery, Counseling, English, Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, Many other Professional Development Topics, and more—that will help you meet your goals.
Can I earn college credits or a degree by taking courses from Sober College University?
YES! Sober College University Founded the Sober College School of Addiction Studies with this goal in mind. To offer Nationally Accredited College Courses. All College level Courses are accredited by the DETC through Andrew Jackson University. Andrew Jackson offers many different degree tracks including Business and Communication. Some courses may be taken for high school credit, CEU’s, or for non credit subject mastery alone.
Why might I consider e-learning?
E-learning will enable you to enhance your skills even if you can’t travel to an offsite training facility or if you have a hectic work schedule. It also provides an economical way to grow professionally—to practice lifelong learning—since e-learning is usually less expensive than off-site training, including travel costs.
What is “Learning by Doing” and what is the advantage of this method?
Learning by doing is exactly what it sounds like: an active, practical method of education that uses simulations, role-playing, and hands-on problem-solving. SCU has based all of its courses on this method because it is a better way to learn. You remember what you experience much better than what you are told (as in a lecture course), and you can actually apply it in the real world. The best way to learn about a 12 Step program, for example, is to go to a 12 Step meeting and participate. You will emerge from our courses with a level of understanding that would not be possible had you merely read text and taken multiple-choice tests. SCU has adopted the learning by doing method in order to provide the best and deepest learning possible.
